Workplace safety is a fundamental component of effective project implementation, especially in infrastructure projects involving high-risk activities. Strong OHS systems help organizations reduce workplace accidents, enhance risk management, and foster a culture of prevention and responsibility. As a development partner, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) emphasizes the integration of robust environmental, social, and OHS safeguards in all project cycles. ADB’s Environmental and Social Framework (ESF 2024) outlines clear requirements and procedures to guide executing and implementing agencies in managing occupational risks, ensuring that project sites maintain safe, healthy, and compliant working environments.
In Nepal, infrastructure projects often encounter challenges in effectively implementing OHS standards, particularly in areas such as hazard identification, risk assessment, monitoring, incident reporting, and adherence to national regulations and safeguard guidelines. Limited technical capacity, inadequate supervision, and gaps in procedural understanding contribute to delays, non-compliance, and safety risks during project execution.
This training is thus designed to enhance the capacity of project staff and field-level supervisors to apply OHS principles, guidelines, and practices in alignment with ADB’s requirements and national legal provisions. Through practical sessions, case studies, field visits, and demonstrations, participants will strengthen their ability to plan, monitor, and manage workplace safety across various stages of project implementation. The program is designed to promote a culture of safety, improve compliance, and contribute to more efficient, responsible, and risk-aware project delivery.
