Introduction
Effective implementation of environmental and social safeguards is essential forensuring that infrastructure and development projects are carried out in asustainable, inclusive, and socially responsible manner. Proper safeguard practiceshelp identify and mitigate environmental and social risks, protect affectedcommunities, improve occupational health and safety standards, and strengthenaccountability throughout the project cycle.The Asian Development Bank is supporting the implementation of developmentinitiatives in Nepal through investment and technical assistance. In line with ADB’sSafeguard Policy Statement (2009), projects are required to comply withenvironmental, involuntary resettlement, indigenous peoples, and occupationalhealth and safety requirements during planning and implementation. However,challenges are often observed in safeguard screening and categorization, preparationof safeguard documents, stakeholder engagement, monitoring, reporting, and field-level compliance management.This three-day training program has been designed to strengthen the capacity ofproject officials involved in PTDSSP to effectively apply environmental and socialsafeguard requirements in project implementation. The training provides practicalknowledge on safeguard policies, environmental and social risk assessment, OHSmeasures, grievance redress mechanisms, stakeholder engagement, safeguardmonitoring, and reporting procedures.Course AimThe aim of this course is to enhance participants’ knowledge and practical skillsin applying ADB’s environmental and social safeguard requirements.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this program, participants are expected to be able to:
• describe the key concepts, principles, and policy requirements ofenvironmental and social safeguards under the ADB SPS (2009).
• apply environmental and social safeguard procedures and tools in PTDSSPproject implementation
• prepare safeguard-related plans, monitoring reports, stakeholder engagementstrategies, grievance handling mechanisms, and OHS compliance measures.

• Environmental Safeguards requirements in LA, PAM, IEE/EMP, BD/BOQ,Contract Agreement
• OHS and its importance in PTDSSP
Training Approach and Methodology
Adult learning principles will be used to facilitate the learning of the participants. Particularly, instruction techniques such as interactive lecture,group exercise, and demonstration will be used to enhance participants'learning.
